Home Health Aide

A professional caregiver trained to provide personal care, unskilled services, and companionship in the comfort of their home or environment. They are under the direction, instruction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and the patient. The healthcare personnel duties are not limited to those listed as the position has a wide scope of duties at times dependent on the client and always under the auspices of the nurse registry. The HHA will provide various personal care services as necessary to meet the patient’s personal needs by providing a strong sense self-esteem and promoting independence within the comfort and a safe environment of the patient’s home or setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Home Health Aide will involve the client in the care plan and help provide the client with the basic standards of healthy living. The following list of responsibilities is a guideline of possible duties that may be performed independently, as a group or by the caregiver in the course of working with the client. The Caregiver may assist in the following duties and are not limited to those listed:

  • Assists the patient in the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including personal care, hygiene, baths, skin and oral care, eating, dressing, elimination, exercises, ambulation, and changing/making patient’s bed.
  • Assists the patient in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) plans including transportation, escorting, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and house maintenance and management
  • Encourages the patient to participate in their personalized care plan.
  • Gives emotional support to the patient and/or family.
  • Provides companionship
  • Assists in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment. Uses equipment and supplies safely and properly.
  • Reminds the client to take self-administered medications as ordered by the physician.
