Companion/Homemaker
A professional healthcare personal trained to provide companionship to clients’ requiring socialization and/or minimum guidance in assuring a protected, safe and healthy environment. The caregiver may perform home maintenance services in the comfort of the client’s home or environment. By law and as enforced by the State of Florida, a companion cannot provide hands-on care to the client.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list of responsibilities is a guideline of possible duties that may be performed independently, as a group or by the caregiver in the course of working with the client. The Caregiver may assist in the following duties and are not limited to those listed.
- Provides companionship by reading, conversation, and listening.
- Participates in appropriate recreational activities and hobbies.
- Maintains a safe home environment for the client.
- Assists in the maintenance of a clean and healthy environment.
- Reminds the client to take self-administered medications as ordered by the physician.
- Provides emotional support and promotes a sense of well-being.
- Assist the patient in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) includes:
- Transportation
- Escorting
- Meal preparation
- Grocery shopping
- Light housekeeping maintenance
- Personal laundry
